USJE mourns the passing of Kevin Schell
It is with great sadness that USJE has learned of the sudden passing of USJE member Kevin Schell. Tragically, Kevin drowned on Monday during the heroic rescue of a swimmer in the Muskoka River in Bracebridge, north of Toronto.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Kevin’s family, friends, and work and union colleagues.
Kevin, who was a member of Local 00952, started his career of nearly 20 years with CSC in 2001 in the Food Services department at Fenbrook Institution. He continued there after the merging of Fenbrook and Beaver Creek Institution in 2014 and was the acting Chief of Food Services for the past three years. Kevin also worked with Indigenous offenders, spending time acting as an Indigenous Correctional Program Officer.
We encourage any members who are struggling to reach out to their Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or the Critical Incident Stress Management Program (CISM). Your Local Executive and Regional Vice-President are also available to support you through this difficult time.
